update on HST findings
well, i think i found where we can change things to HST, but i think it involves some coding which i would have no idea how to do. and fyi, i'm posting these comments here so i can get the hang of navigating the site, etc. i'll drop you an email with my findings...
by the way, i think it's under App settings/Regional...

to consider: "issue date"... the default seems to be set to a mainland timezone. is there a way to set the defult to HST? i'll poke around here and see what i can find (without doing any serious damaage). -r-

Clean Permalinks!
b2evolution uses old-style permalinks and feedback links by default. This is to ensure maximum compatibility with various webserver configurations.
Nethertheless, once you feel comfortable with b2evolution, you should try activating clean permalinks in the Settings screen... (check 'Use extra-path info')
